Etymology
The word gravity comes from the Latin gravitas, from gravis meaning 'heavy'. You can see the same root in the word grave, and people used that 'heavy' idea to name the natural force that makes things 'fall' or feel 'heavy', so gravity is the 'pull' that keeps us on the ground.
