Etymology

Planet comes from the Greek word planetes, meaning 'wanderer', from planasthai, 'to wander'. Ancient people called bright moving stars 'planets' because they seemed to wander across the night sky instead of staying in one place. So, a planet today is a large body that moves around a star.
