Morphology
twilight = twi + light
Although historically built from a bound element related to division and 'light', the figurative sense 'period of decline' is not recoverable by standard modern English morphology.
Etymology
Twilight uses the same parts twi- 'two' and light to suggest a time 'between' day and night, and people borrow that image for times near the end of life or a period. So twilight can mean a time of decline after a time of success.
