Etymology
Gaslighting comes from a 1930s play and later films called Gas Light, where a husband dimmed the gas lights and then denied it, making his wife doubt what she saw. So a gaslighting is the act of making someone doubt their own 'memory', 'what they saw', or 'sense of reality'.
