Morphology

fuck + off

The particle 'off' clearly supplies the 'away' component and English verb+off patterns often signal dismissal, but the verb 'fuck' has literal sexual/strong-emotive senses that do not mean 'send away' on their own. The phrase’s pragmatic, taboo, and forceful use as a rude dismissal is therefore only partly predictable from the parts, so a B1 learner knowing the words would only partially infer the intended meaning.

Etymology

Fuck off may come from putting the rude word fuck before the word off, where off simply means 'away'. Because the strong word makes the order angry, the phrase now means 'to go away' in a very 'rude' way.
