The prefix 'skeu' is not a productive English morpheme, making the word's meaning difficult to deduce from its parts.
Etymology
Skeuomorphic comes from Greek parts skeuo- meaning 'tool' or 'container' and -morph meaning 'shape' or 'form'. So a skeuomorphic design keeps the old object's shape in a new form, for example a digital notebook that looks like real paper to feel familiar.
