Etymology
The word hypoglycemic comes from three parts: hypo- meaning 'under', as in hypothermia, glyc- meaning 'sweet' or 'sugar', and -emic meaning 'in the blood', as in anemic. So hypoglycemic literally means 'low sugar in the blood', which is why it describes having too little blood sugar.
