Morphology
hypoglycemic = glycemic (semi-transparent) = hypo + glyc + emic
The word is a regular prefixation of glycemic with hypo-, so the form is straightforward once the base is known.
Etymology
The word hypoglycemic comes from three parts: hypo- meaning 'under', as in hypothermia, glyc- meaning 'sweet' or 'sugar', and -emic meaning 'in the blood', as in anemic. So hypoglycemic literally means 'low sugar in the blood', which is why it describes having too little blood sugar.
