Morphology
Etymology
The word heterocyclic comes from the parts hetero- 'other' and cyclic 'ring', and it names a compound whose ring is made of more than one kind of atom, for example carbon plus nitrogen or oxygen. So a heterocyclic is a ring-shaped chemical that has at least one 'other' atom, not only carbon.
