The structure 'hetero-' + 'cycle' + '-ic' is analyzable, but 'hetero-' is a learned combining form and the term is technical, so it is not fully transparent to an average B1 learner.
Etymology
The word heterocyclic comes from the parts hetero- 'other' and cyclic 'circle' or 'ring'. So it describes a molecule with a ring that includes at least one atom that is 'other' than carbon.
