GiB = G + i + B
The form is an initialism representing a technical unit ('gibibyte'); its letter components are not productive morphemes in general English and the binary prefix 'Gi' is technical and not deducible by an average B1 learner.
Etymology
GiB comes from the computer prefix gibi- plus byte, where gibi- was made from giga (meaning 'billion') to mark sizes counted in groups of 1,024 instead of 1,000. So, GiB is one of those binary groups and equals 1,073,741,824 bytes, which is 1,024 times 1,024 times 1,024, and that is why it is used to show exact memory and file sizes in computers.
