Morphology
KiB = kibibyte (transparent) = Ki + B
KiB is the standard abbreviation/IEC symbol for 'kibibyte' and directly represents the same unit (1024 bytes).
Etymology
KiB stands for kibibyte and comes from the parts kibi, a computer form of kilo that means 'thousand', and byte, the basic unit of digital information. So KiB is the computer 'kilo' of bytes, equal to 1024 bytes rather than 1000.
