Morphology

MiB is a technical initialism for 'mebibyte' and the letter components are not a productive morphological analysis for typical learners.

Etymology

MiB comes from the prefix mebi- plus byte, and mebi- was created to mean 'binary mega', a computer version of mega, so MiB equals 1,048,576 bytes, which is 1024 times 1024. That's why MiB is used when you want the exact computer size, not the round 'one million' meaning of MB.
