Etymology
Trespassing comes from old words that mean 'beyond' and 'step': tres- for 'beyond' and pass like the common word pass meaning 'to step or move across'. So, to trespass is to step over a boundary into someone else's space, which explains why it means gradually intruding without right or permission.
