The word semiclassical comes from semi- meaning 'half' or 'partly' and classical meaning 'old or traditional', just like in semicircle. In physics, semiclassical means using some classical ideas together with quantum ones, so it is 'partly' classical and helps give a simpler way to get close to the full quantum result.
