Etymology
The word sandstorm comes from the two simple parts sand ('tiny grains') and storm ('strong wind or bad weather'), so it literally means a 'storm' of 'sand', like a snowstorm is a storm of snow. That's why a sandstorm is a windstorm that blows clouds of sand through the air.
