Morphology
The meaning 'family line descended from a sovereign' is directly and transparently derived from combining 'royal' (relating to kings or queens) with 'line' (lineage), following a standard adjective + noun composition. This is a common, cross-linguistic concept and would be easily inferable by a B1 learner who knows both constituent words.
Etymology
Royal line may come from the simple picture of a long line of royal people, each child standing behind the last and passing a crown along. So, it means the family 'who come from a king or queen', the group who inherit the throne.
