Morphology

photomicrograph = micrograph (semi-transparent) = photo + micro + graph

The word is most naturally analyzed as micrograph with photo- added, and the scientific elements are recognizable, but the term is specialized.

Etymology

Photomicrograph combines photo- ('light'), micro- ('small') and -graph ('to record'), just like photograph. So it means a 'light picture of something very small', which is why a photomicrograph is a photograph taken with a microscope.
