moorwort = moor + wort (semi-transparent) = moor + wort

'Moor' and 'wort' together literally indicate a plant of the moor, but 'wort' is archaic/uncommon and many learners will not recognise it, so the compound is not fully transparent.

Etymology

Moorwort comes from moor ('open wet land') and wort ('plant'), the same 'wort' you see in St. John's wort. So Moorwort literally means a 'plant of the moor', which explains why it grows in boggy, acidic places.
