Etymology
The word kebab comes from the Persian and Arabic word kabāb, which meant 'grilled meat' and made people think of meat cooked over a fire on a stick. So a kebab today is pieces of meat often served with vegetables and cooked on a stick, a bit like a small barbecue you can eat with your hands.
