Etymology
Cholinergic comes from choline, a body chemical, plus the ending -ergic, which means 'working with' or 'activated by' and is like the idea in allergic ('reacting to' something). So, cholinergic means 'activated by' acetylcholine, the messenger chemical, which is why we use it for nerves or drugs that work with that chemical.
