Etymology
Chimeric comes from chimera, a creature in an old Greek myth with the head of a lion, the body of a goat and the tail of a snake. Because a chimera was made of different animal parts, chimeric is used for things that are a strange 'mix' or are made from parts of different origin. It also means a wild or 'imaginary' idea, which is why people call an impossible plan 'chimeric'.
