Etymology
Apostle comes from the Greek apostolos, made of apo- 'away' and stello 'to send', so it originally meant 'one sent away'. In the Bible this name was given to the twelve people Jesus sent out to teach, which is why apostle means an important early Christian teacher or missionary.
