Etymology
Anthracnose comes from Greek parts anthrax meaning 'coal', as in the English word anthracite, and nosos meaning 'disease'. So anthracnose is a 'coal disease' and is named for the dark, coal-like spots the fungus makes on leaves, stems, or fruit.
