Formed from Greek combining elements 'ortho-' and '-dox' which are not standalone English words and are unlikely to be known by a B1 learner, so the religious/traditional sense cannot be derived from the components.
Etymology
Orthodox comes from the Greek parts ortho- meaning 'right' and doxa meaning 'belief' or 'opinion'. So Orthodox Jews are those who follow the traditional, 'right' beliefs and rules of their religion.
