Etymology
Benedict as a breakfast dish is named after a person called Benedict. One popular story says a man named Lemuel Benedict ordered buttered toast with poached eggs and hollandaise and a chef turned it into the classic, and you can remember the name because Latin benedictus means 'blessed', so the dish keeps the person's 'blessed' name.
