Etymology
The noun vapor pressure gives a clear picture: the gas above a liquid, the vapor, pushes down like an invisible hand and that push is the pressure inside a closed space. Imagine a pot with a lid; when the push from the vapor equals the outside air, the liquid starts to boil, so 'vapor pressure' tells us how strongly the vapor pushes and why liquids boil or need careful storage.
