Thermoplastic comes from Greek parts thermo- meaning 'heat' and plastic meaning 'able to be shaped', the same thermo- in thermometer and the everyday word plastic. So a thermoplastic is a plastic material that gets soft when heated and hard when cooled, and it can be melted and remolded many times.
