pemphigoid = pemphigus (opaque) = pemphig + oid
Although formed by the productive suffix '-oid' meaning 'resembling', the base 'pemphigus' and the combining form are specialized medical terms and not transparent to an average B1 learner.
Etymology
The word pemphigoid comes from the Greek pemphix meaning 'blister' and the ending -oid meaning 'like', the same 'like' in humanoid. So pemphigoid names a group of skin diseases that cause blisters.
