Morphology

pemphigoid = pemphigus (opaque) = pemphig + oid

Formed from the same Greek combining form plus '-oid'; while '-oid' is a recognizable suffix for some learners, the root is specialized medical vocabulary and not transparent to the average B1 learner.

Etymology

The adjective pemphigoid comes from the Greek pemphix 'blister' plus -oid 'like', as in humanoid. So to call a rash pemphigoid is to say it is 'blister-like' and has the same blister signs as the disease.
