neurofibroma = fibroma (opaque) = neuro + fibro + oma
The immediate morphological step is a straightforward prefixation of neuro- to fibroma, though fibroma itself is a specialized medical term.
Etymology
Neurofibroma breaks into three parts: neuro- 'nerve', fibro- 'fiber' as in the English word fiber, and -oma 'tumor'. So a neurofibroma is a 'tumor of nerve fibers', which explains why it grows from the covering of a nerve.
