Etymology
The word millibar is made of milli- meaning 'one thousandth' and bar meaning 'pressure' or 'weight', the same bar in barometer. So a millibar is a small unit of air pressure, one thousandth of a bar, which is why weather reports use it to show changes in atmospheric pressure.
