Etymology
The word lobotomy comes from two Greek parts: lob- meaning 'lobe', as in 'earlobe', and -tomy meaning 'cutting'. So a lobotomy is a surgery that 'cuts' part of the brain called a 'lobe', which is why it often changed a person's personality and is now rarely used.
