Etymology
The word kiln-dried comes from kiln and dried: a kiln is an old name for a hot 'oven' used to dry or bake things, and dried means made 'dry'. So kiln-dried means wood or clay that has been made dry in a special oven to remove moisture, which is why it is more stable and less likely to crack.
