Etymology
Anaconda probably comes from a Sinhalese word henakandaya that was used for large snakes and is often said to mean 'bone-breaker' or 'whip'. Sailors brought this name into European languages and it later became the word for the huge South American snake that squeezes its prey, so the old meaning fits the modern one.
