Morphology

agenesis = genesis (semi-transparent) = a + genesis

Formed by the negative prefix 'a-' + 'genesis' (formation), but the term is a technical medical word and 'genesis' may be unfamiliar to general learners.

Etymology

Agenesis comes from the Greek parts a- meaning 'without' and genesis meaning 'birth' or 'origin', the same genesis you see in the book 'Genesis' and in the word generate. So, agenesis is used for a body part that was 'without' development — it did not form before birth.
