Morphology
Etymology
The word acetanilid comes from two parts: acet- from 'acetic', meaning 'vinegar' or 'acid', and aniline, which comes from anil, the old word for the indigo dye. So acetanilid is literally the chemical made from acetic acid and aniline, which explains its use in dyes and its earlier use as a painkiller.
