Etymology

The word Dalmatia comes from the name of an old local people, the Dalmatae, and from the town Delminium, and some people think the original word meant 'sheep'. A helpful way to remember it is to think of Dalmatian (the spotted dog) and the Croatian coast, because both names come from those old people, so Dalmatia means that historic coastal region.
