Etymology
Arctotis comes from Greek parts arktos ('bear') and otis ('ear'), so it literally means 'bear's ear'. A helpful image is the plant's soft, hairy leaves that can look a little like a fuzzy ear, and the same arktos root appears in arctic, so the name fits these African daisies.
