Morphologically it's the negation of 'translated', but the sense refers to a specialized biological process (translation of mRNA), which many learners may not know.

Etymology

Untranslated starts with un- meaning 'not' and the root translate, which also carried the idea of 'changing into' something else, like in transfer. So in biology an untranslated region of RNA is a part that is not 'changed into' a protein.
