Morphology
unemancipated = emancipated (transparent) = un + emancipate + ed
The adjective is formed by negating 'emancipated' and the social/personality nuance does not obscure the morphological relation.
Etymology
Unemancipated breaks into un- 'not' and emancipate 'to free', with the old idea of being taken 'out of the hand' as a sign of getting freedom. So calling someone or a community unemancipated means they are 'not freed' socially or personally and still follow old, strict ideas.
