Sublevel comes from the prefix sub- meaning 'under' and level, so in science it means a smaller level inside a larger one. In atoms a sublevel is a smaller part of an electron shell, like a big floor divided into smaller sections, and the same sub- you see in subway ('under' the ground) helps you remember it is under the main level.
