Orgy can also mean an occasion of extreme indulgence, like too much eating or spending, and this sense grew from the same Greek orgia idea of giving yourself up to strong feeling. It even shares the root with the word orgasm, which points to the idea of intense excitement, so calling something an 'orgy' shows it is uncontrolled and excessive.
