Etymology

Multiwall comes from the parts multi- 'many' and wall 'barrier' or 'outer layer', the same multi- you see in 'multiple'. Think of a greenhouse like a sandwich of walls: having more layers gives extra strength and keeps heat in, so multiwall means 'having more than one wall' for strength or insulation.
