This is a learned scientific term built with the combining form etho- and the suffix -logy, but the meaning 'study of animal behavior' is not directly recoverable from the parts for an average learner.
Etymology
The word ethology comes from the Greek root ethos ('character') and the ending -logy ('study'). So, like the word ethics, it is the study of 'character', in this case the natural behavior of animals.
