Morphology

ethnology = ethno + logy

Although the suffix '-logy' clearly signals 'study of', the combining form 'ethno-' is not a standalone English word and is unlikely to be recoverable by an average B1 learner.

Etymology

The word ethnology comes from Greek parts ethno- meaning 'people' and -logy meaning 'study', and it shares the same root as ethnic. So, ethnology is the study of different peoples and their cultures.
