Etymology
The word ectoplasmic comes from the parts ecto- meaning 'outside' and plasma meaning 'substance' or 'something formed', the same plasma you know from 'blood plasma'. So, ectoplasmic paints the picture of a ghostly, mist-like 'outside' substance that seems to hang around a person or place.
