Morphology

convalescent = convalesce (semi-transparent) = convalesce + ent

Regular adjectival formation from 'convalesce' using '-ent', but the root verb is Latinate and not common in learner vocabularies.

Etymology

Convalescent comes from Latin parts con- and valescere, which mean 'together' and 'to grow strong', and the root val- is the same as in valid. So when someone is convalescent, they are 'getting stronger' after being ill.
