borosilicate = silicate (semi-transparent) = boro + silicate

Morphologically regular (boro- + silicate) indicating boron-containing silicate, but the combining form 'boro-' and the technical chemical sense may be unfamiliar to general learners.

Etymology

Borosilicate combines boro- from boron and silicate from silica ('sand'). Think of adding a little boron to sand to make very strong glass, which is why borosilicate resists heat and chemicals.
