Etymology
Angioplasty breaks into angio- ('vessel') and -plasty ('to shape' or 'repair'), the same -plasty you see in rhinoplasty. So an angioplasty is literally 'shaping' or fixing a blood vessel, which is why the modern procedure opens or repairs a blocked artery with a small balloon or device.
